Mathew Gates is a World and International-level coach and choreographer with over 20 years of experience helping skaters unlock their full potential—from first steps on the ice to elite, international competition. A two-time Team USA World Team member and seven-time consecutive U.S. National medalist, Mathew brings world-class experience and insight to every session.

Specializing in ice dance (partnered and solo), choreography, and advanced skating skills, Mathew is known for building complete, competitive athletes. His expertise spans IJS step sequences, Moves in the Field, power skating, and detailed video analysis—giving skaters the tools to improve quickly, perform confidently, and stand out in today’s competitive landscape.

Mathew has coached and choreographed for athletes at the World Championship and international level, and his work has earned him recognition as a PSA Choreographer of the Year. As a former ISU and U.S. Figure Skating Technical Specialist and current member of the U.S. Figure Skating Coaches Council, he offers skaters and families a strategic advantage with up-to-date knowledge of judging systems and performance standards.

He works with skaters across all pathways—including NQS, Solo Dance, Excel, Adult, Collegiate, and test track—creating individualized training plans that support both competitive success and long-term development. Whether a skater’s goal is to reach the podium or achieve personal milestones, Mathew provides the structure, clarity, and high-level coaching needed to get there.

Having trained under renowned coaches such as Igor Shpilband and Tatiana Tarasova, and worked with top athletes from around the world, Mathew brings a global perspective and collaborative approach to his coaching. He regularly travels internationally to choreograph programs and lead seminars, while continuing to mentor skaters of all ages and levels.
