Inside a Day with Camp VIDA (What Makes OUR Camp Different)
When parents sign up for a summer camp, one of the biggest questions is usually:
“What is my child actually doing all day?”
At Skate VIDA, we believe that transparency matters—especially when it comes to training time, structure, and what skaters are really getting out of their day on the ice.
So instead of guessing, here’s a real look inside a typical Skate VIDA camp day and what makes our approach different.
A Camp Day Designed With Purpose, Not Just Activity
A Skate VIDA camp day is not just “open skate with coaching sprinkled in.”
Every segment of the day is intentionally structured to balance:
Skill development
Physical conditioning
On-ice repetition
Creativity and engagement
Rest and recovery
This combination is what helps skaters stay focused, improve faster, and actually retain what they learn.
Pre-Skate Off-Ice Training (30 minutes)
Cardio, Agility & Strength
We start the day off the ice to activate the body and build athletic readiness.
This includes:
Cardiovascular warm-ups
Agility and coordination drills
Strength and stability exercises
This isn’t just fitness for fitness’ sake—it directly supports jump control, balance, and injury prevention on the ice.
And yes—Texas heat or not, we’re already getting the hard work done early indoors 😄
Skates On + Independent Warm-Up (15 minutes)
Skaters then transition onto the ice for:
Equipment check
Edge warm-ups
Independent movement to get comfortable and centered
This helps each skater prepare mentally and physically before structured training begins.
On-Ice Group Games & Movement (15 minutes)
This is where energy meets learning.
Skaters participate in:
Group games
Relay-style challenges
Choreography-based movement exercises
This segment builds:
Ice confidence
Speed control
Spatial awareness
Team connection
Because learning doesn’t always have to feel like repetition—it can also feel like play.
Skills-Based Breakout Training (30 minutes)
Skaters are divided into level-based groups, allowing coaches to focus on specific developmental needs.
This may include:
Stroking and Crossovers
Edge refinement
Balance and posture correction
This is where technical growth really starts to take shape.
Snack & Water Break (15 minutes)
Recovery matters.
Skaters take a short break to:
Refuel
Hydrate
Reset mentally
This pause helps maintain focus and performance for the second half of the day.
Second Skills Block (30 minutes)
After recharging, skaters return to level-based training for a second focused session.
This reinforces earlier work and allows for:
Skill repetition under coach supervision
Correction of technique in real time
Confidence building through repetition
This second block is where “it starts to click” for many skaters.
Skates Off + Off-Ice Conditioning (30 minutes)
We finish the day off the ice with:
Core strength training
Balance work
Stretching and flexibility
This supports:
Injury prevention
Body awareness
Long-term athletic development
It also helps skaters leave class feeling accomplished—but not overworked.
What Makes Skate VIDA Camps Different
Many other camps focus heavily on either:
unstructured open skate ice time
daycare over training
At Skate VIDA, we mindfully combine both on-ice and off-ice training in a structured, intentional rhythm throughout the day.
That means skaters are not just practicing skills or staying active,
Instead, they are:
→ Training with purpose
→ Reinforcing skills multiple times in one day
→ Building athletic habits that carry into long-term progress
More Than a Camp—It’s a Training System
A Skate VIDA camp day is designed to mirror what consistent, structured training looks like at higher levels of the sport.
It’s not about exhausting skaters, it’s about:
Smart repetition
Balanced development
Confidence through progression
And for Texas families?
It also means a full day of structured activity… inside where the ice is cold and the summer heat isn’t 😄
